The SMAS area is comprised of tissues deep beneath the skin that is connected to the muscles of the face and the area beneath and around the ear and neck. Gentle manipulations of the muscles and skin in this area serve to tighten and lift, bringing a youthful appearance back to the skin.

Sutures are used to help secure these adjustments, followed by trimming of excess skin, liposuctioning of excess fat in the neck, and a closing of the incisions. Following the procedure, a compressive dressing is placed on the skin to help the changes take and reduce the chance of bleeding. Patients report that mini facelifts are merely uncomfortable versus truly painful, and that discomfort is treated with narcotic medication in low-doses following the procedure.

Warm and cold compresses can also aid in the reduction of pain and swelling during the recovery period. Allen will thin sculpt and redistribute fat within the face, neck and along the jowl. Excess skin will be trimmed away and the underlying muscles and tissues will be lifted to form a more youthful appearance.
