Castro residents will recall the triangular-shaped space has sat unfilled since the six-story mixed-use apartment building Market St. Maven's Santino DeRose tells Hoodline "a really interesting coffee concept" will be opening in the space. Asked for more details, DeRose and agent Catherine Meunier declined to comment or announce the name of the business.
Two other storefronts in the building are currently occupied by One Medical and Tin Pharmacy which both took over portions of the space previously occupied by The Myriad. The coffee shop occupies the ground floor space inside the Fitness SF building. Weaver's Coffee has permanently closed at Market St. Weaver's Coffee future appeared in limbo after it temporarily closed in August Then one year ago a driver crashed through Weaver's window , damaging the storefront and the building.
Now that the repairs have been completed and the building received a fresh coat of paint, Hooodline can confirm that Weaver's has in fact departed the Castro after opening in A new for-lease sign has been posted in the window.

An erroneous claim that Target is closing its downtown San Francisco Metreon location was picked up by conservative media, but shot down by a simple email from a Chronicle reporter who asked the company. A hairy situation will be developing Saturday in South of Market, with live music, DJs, and wrestling, but the Bearrison Street Fair pre-parties start beefing up on Friday.
By Steven Bracco - Published on September 10, As Garcia says, "San Francisco nightlife changed dramatically and quickly after the closing of Club Universe and Palladium in the early s. SFist asked Alan a few questions about how the gay Burning Man scene became part and parcel with the SF gay scene, and about his hopes for Empire Ballroom. My best friend Matt Hagenian Lucifer and I had thrown a lot of thematic costume house parties so we decided to use that model as a way of doing something different for a beer bust.
That year we did a few beer busts and a bus party, all of which seemed very successful at the time time. That year we did some more beer busts and bus parties, but Pretzel was ambitious and wanted us to do a larger dance party at F8 on Folsom.
Mystopia had already paved the way, but at the time it still felt like an impossible endeavor. Pretzel talked Lucifer and I into it and it turned into a great success.
By the time we had our third party at F8 earlier this year we had brought on our virgin GlamCocks known as Cockerells for this year and the party exploded.
There was literally a line around the block with some people waiting 90 minutes to get in because they had spent weeks on their costumes. After that I approached a lot of clubs and Mighty seemed like the best fit. At the time, the manager was one of the founders of Pink Mammoth, a large Burning Man camp, and they have been wonderful to work with.
Juan approached me about GlamCocks hosting a party in Guerneville, but it was too soon after the burn for us and we had to decline. I had just left 14 years in social services was looking for a new career, so Juan and I had a lot about discussion about whether or not event production was a realistic pursuit for me beyond GlamCocks.
Without a doubt! And it goes well beyond costumes; from the Facebook event page to art and decorations, the theme of the party permeates the experience. GlamCocks uses the creative talent of their members, including artists, writers, graphic designers, dancers, and drag queens to tell a story and create an atmosphere. Most — but not all — of San Francisco's nightlife scene has come back open in the last several months, now that people can be indoors without capacity limits so long as they're vaccinated.
But among the Castro institutions that's stayed dark is The Cafe. That all changes this weekend. As announced on the club's website and its Facebook , Thursday, September 30 marks the kickoff of The Cafe's reopening weekend.
And, as at all nightclubs in the city, proof of vaccination is required at the door, and you're asked to wear masks when entering, using the facilities, and when ordering at the bar. The Cafe had only been back open following a mid remodel for a few months when the pandemic forced it closed again last March. With its large capacity, the Cafe was one of several nightclubs in the Castro that had to close days ahead of other bars in the area, along with Badlands, Toad Hall, and Beaux.
